About the job

HERC believes that design is more than just design. It’s a craft, it’s art. Our Design department makes a significant contribution to our success in creating Brand Heat, connecting brand thinking with popular culture on a range of design, branding, strategy, advertising and entertainment projects. And we love that!

All work at HERC is teamwork. You will make the team better and stronger through approach, methodology, work, and craft, bringing a complete set of skills: graphic design, identity design, branding systems, typography, storytelling, photography and motion. The ability to work in 3D is encouraged.

About you

The Design Director manages a small team of Mids, Juniors and Interns below them. You will provide leadership, wisdom, and professional development to them; including mentorship, feedback and training. You will be able to have both difficult and brilliant conversations with your team.
You should set a clear and inspiring vision, identifying opportunities and pushing the work to be the best it can be. You aspire to make work that will raise the bar, work that goes beyond advertising and pushes into culture and people’s everyday lives.
You have excellent taste, judgement and craft skills and are able to flex how you work to accommodate big and small budgets, helping others on the team to do the same.
You understand the entirety of the project lifecycle from brief to delivery and documentation. Your experience allows you to see issues before they arise, solving them on the fly.
You will build and maintain top-level client relationships in a way that feels appropriate and authentic to you. You are responsible for articulating to clients how design helps solve their problem.
Above all, you’ll be here to have fun and make HERC a better agency, boosting our creative obsession and our independence. You will use your knowledge and understanding of design to help us grow.
