World’s 25 largest agency companies and the state of the agency market

WPP, Accenture Accenture's Song and Publicis Groupe are among the top 25 global agency companies by revenue according to the Ad Age Agency Report 2023 .

Produced by Ad Age DataCenter, the industry's most authoritative source of competitive intel, the Ad Age Agency Report includes listings of advertising, marketing services, and media agencies based on 2022 revenue.

The Ad Age  ranking is determined using US and global revenue across a range of marketing agencies. It also examines how agencies are positioning themselves as the industry increases its focus on business transformation

The report that has been published each year since 1945 also includes industry analyzes and detailed company profiles with revenue breakdowns.

Other agency companies that made it to the top 25 list include Omnicom, Dentsu, S4 Capital and Quad.

Ad agency employment reached an all-time high in 2022, but the report finds caution signs for advertising employment in 2023.

The report notes in part that agencies have been facing headwinds of slowing growth in digital advertising and a potential recession. Yet amid the warning signals, investors have been bullish. Shares in one of the world's biggest agency companies last week reached an all-time high. That in part reflects how agency companies are striving to move the business from creating ads to a bigger stage of creating change for marketers.

Report: “Agency companies are working to control staff costs through various means including agency mergers and restructuring, shifting jobs to lower-cost countries and automation. Agencies still create ads, but the business today is more about creating change as agencies and agency companies pitch the promise of data and digital to help clients connect with consumers.”
